02. When there is no love or hate

Verses

But don’t hate love
 Dongran understands

Cuando no hay amor ni odio
Se manifiesta su naturaleza luminosa.

Comment.

We continually hold on to what we want (“amor”), and we reject (“hatred”) what is unpleasant to us without being aware of it. Our practice is to observe, stalk and see directly how this attraction and rejection manifests itself, in what form and specific details, in our life circumstances.

The practice of mindfulness allows us to observe this process in detail and gives us the opportunity to fully experience how it expresses itself in us.. Once observed, fully experienced and integrated, the luminous nature of everything around us becomes evident, How the step of the right leg follows that of the left.

Thanks to the equanimity that it provides us zazen, love-hate polarization and any other dichotomy dissolves. From this state of equanimous openness we can experience things as they are so that the luminous nature of reality arises naturally.. To do this we must adopt an attitude of openness, without taking sides neither for nor against, unconditionally accepting any content that is emerging in our field of experience.

As the teacher said Eihei Dogen²:

Keep your hands open and all the desert sand will pass through them.

Close them and you will only get a few grains of sand.
