The Soto Zen Camino Medio Community is pleased to present a cycle of teachings for the Introduction to Buddhism Course I, taught by zen master Daizan Soriano, a space for learning and reflection dedicated to delving into the foundations of Buddhism. This course is designed for those who wish to explore the roots of this ancient tradition and understand its relevance in the contemporary world..
What does this course offer??
Through five thematic modules, Participants will be guided through a comprehensive tour that addresses essential aspects of the teachings, Buddhist history and practice. Each session seeks to intertwine theoretical study with a practical application, facilitating a transformative experience both intellectually and spiritually.
Main contents:
- The Life of Siddhartha Gautama: An analysis of the historical and cultural context that gave rise to the emergence of Buddhism, exploring key events in the life of the Buddha.
- The first teachings: An immersion in the fundamentals of Dharma, including the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path.
- The path of bodhisattva: Reflection on the ideals of compassion and selfless service towards all beings, pillars of Mahayana Buddhism.
- Introduction to sacred texts: Study of Buddhist sutras and their influence on various traditions.
- Buddhist psychology: A deep exploration of the mind and perception from the perspective of the Dharma.
Course objectives:
- Facilitate the study of Buddhist psychology, offering a deep understanding of the mind and perception.
- Provide historical and cultural context of Buddhism, including the life of Siddhartha Gautama.
- Present and explain basic teachings, as the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path.
- Explore the path of bodhisattva and his ideals of compassion and service to all beings.
- Introduce students to Buddhist sutras and their importance in different traditions.
Who is it addressed to??
This course is open to all people interested in Buddhism., whether they have previous experience in their practice or want to approach this philosophy for the first time. No prior knowledge required, just an open attitude and the desire to learn.
Methodology
The sessions will combine theoretical explanations and moments of group discussion. Participants will have access to support material, including recommended readings and digital resources to complement your learning.
Registration and practical details
- Duration: 5 one-hour sessions on a fortnightly basis.
- Format: In person and online. The sessions will be offered live for all members of the practice-study circle from Kômyô zen dojo in Alicante.
- Start: 24 of January of 2025.
